Old-time music continues with the tradition of passing tunes down from generation to generation. The music isn't generally found on paper, however. It's learned by ear. This is how Pat Harper, a lifelong resident of Monongalia County, West Virginia, learned the tunes when she began playing hammered dulcimer in 1995. She apprenticed and performed for many years with Master Dulcimist, Patty Looman, whose goal was passing on the tunes in this traditional way. Harper carries on the tradition of sharing the old-time music at many venues. She has been performing at the WVU Mountaineer Week Arts & Craft Fair since 1998.
