There is an additional optional category for the top scoring WV Heritage tune. Each fiddler plays 2 tunes for the fiddle contest. The top scoring Junior, Senior, and Heritage Tune will be determined from the fiddle contest scores.

The WV Heritage Tune prize will be given to the fiddler with the highest score on an individual tune that comes from a West Virginia tradition. This is a tune played in a documented West Virginia style and may have been learned directly from one of West Virginia’s heritage fiddlers, from a recording, or from a fiddler with expertise in the fiddle styles of West Virginia. To be eligible for the prize, competitors must announce that they are playing a West Virginia Heritage Tune and explain how it fits into the West Virginia fiddling tradition.
